Introduction
|
|
The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme, as it’s name
suggests, is a scheme operated jointly by the RYA and it’s
Affiliated clubs running races under the Scheme. Since the
introduction of the Scheme in the 1950s, the RYA has always resisted
publishing lists of Portsmouth Numbers without, in the same document,
also publishing details of how the Numbers should and should not be
applied and how clubs (the user part of the Scheme) should assist the
RYA (the producer part of the Scheme) in determining meaningful
Numbers for publication. This is still the case and is why both listed
Portsmouth Numbers and associated text on how to use the Numbers are
included on this web site page. In the interests of correctness,
readers and users of the Numbers should also read the supporting text.
Better still, buy a copy of the RYA book reference YR2 - RYA
Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme (free on blue spot to RYA members), which
gives the full monty including four illustrative specimen races
together with details on pursuit and average lap races and personal
handicaps.

|
Whilst always ready to deal with questions or
suggestions from participating clubs, the RYA cannot correspond with
individuals either on a particular Portsmouth Number or on general
aspects of the Yardstick Scheme.
